Best Things to Do in Cabo San Lucas

Cabo Has More to Offer Than Most Visitors Realize

Most people come to Cabo San Lucas for the beaches and nightlife — and leave having barely scratched the surface of what the destination offers. The Sea of Cortez, which Jacques Cousteau famously called "the world's aquarium," sits just east of the marina. The desert backcountry stretches north for miles. And the Pacific coast offers some of the world's best deep-sea fishing just minutes offshore.

Here's our edit of the best things to do — from the can't-miss classics to the excursions that elevate a good trip into a great one.

On the Water

Whale Watching

From December through April, Pacific gray whales migrate through the waters off Los Cabos — some of the most accessible whale watching in the world. Humpbacks and blue whales are also frequently spotted. Morning tours depart from the marina and typically last 2–3 hours. Best season: January and February for peak activity.

Sport Fishing

The waters around Cabo are legendary among sport fishermen — the confluence of the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez creates one of the richest fishing grounds in the world. Marlin, dorado, tuna, and wahoo are all in play depending on the season. Half-day and full-day charters range from shared boats to private luxury yachts. Best season: May through November for marlin and dorado.

Sunset Cruise

One of the most reliably enjoyable things you can do in Cabo — a 2-hour catamaran cruise along the coast at golden hour, often with an open bar and live music. The views of El Arco at sunset are iconic, and this is a great option for groups. Book a day or two in advance during peak season.

Snorkeling at Santa Maria Beach

Santa Maria is a protected bay about 10 miles east of Cabo — glassy, calm water, excellent visibility, and a resident sea turtle population. It's one of the best beginner snorkel sites on the Baja coast, and most snorkel tours combine it with a stop at Chileno Bay.

On Land

ATV Desert Tours

Riding ATVs through the Baja desert is one of those experiences that looks great on paper and delivers in person. Most tours run 2–3 hours, passing through desert canyons, ranches, and occasionally a stretch of beach. No experience needed — guides lead small groups at a comfortable pace. Great for: groups, adventure seekers, and families with older kids.

El Arco & Lover's Beach by Water Taxi

El Arco — the iconic rock arch at Land's End — is the symbol of Cabo and a must-see. The most atmospheric way to experience it is by taking a short water taxi from the marina out to Lover's Beach, the calm Sea of Cortez-side cove at the base of the arch. Divorce Beach, facing the Pacific, is wild and rugged by comparison. Budget about 90 minutes total.

Zip-Lining

Several zip-line operations have set up in the hills above Cabo, offering canyon runs with views of the sea. It's a full adrenaline experience and a popular choice for families or groups looking for something different from water activities.

Dining & Nightlife Worth Planning Around

The Office on the Beach

Right on Medano Beach — tables practically in the sand, cold drinks, grilled seafood, and the casual Cabo atmosphere at its best. Go for lunch when the beach is at full energy. It's touristy, but it earns it.

Manta at The Cape

One of the more elevated dining experiences in Cabo — a rooftop restaurant at The Cape hotel with arguably the best view of El Arco and the Pacific in the city. The ceviches and grilled fish are excellent. Reserve in advance for sunset seating.

Cabo Wabo Cantina

Founded by rock musician Sammy Hagar and a genuine institution in Cabo nightlife since 1990. Live music most nights, strong margaritas, and an always-packed dance floor. If you want the Cabo party experience, this is the original.

🗓️ Seasonal note: Whale watching runs December–April. Sport fishing peaks May–November for marlin and dorado. Everything else runs year-round, with higher crowds and prices December–April.

💡 Booking Tip: Tours in Cabo sell out during Christmas, spring break, and Easter week. Book at least 48–72 hours ahead during these periods. We can help coordinate your full activity schedule — reach out here →
